	ELCA National Youth Gathering The 2009 ELCA National Youth Gathering will be held July 22-26, 2009 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Youth must be entering the 10th, 11th, or 12th grades in the fall of 2009, or be a 2009 High School graduate. [currently in 8th grade in 2007/2008]. The theme is Jesus+Justice+Jazz and it draws from the rich faith history, diverse cultures, and arts of New Orleans. The Gathering program will be different that Gatherings before. Planning teams and staff are working with local congregations and organizations, young people, and the city to pay attention to what makes the City of New Orleans unique, as well as the changes it is going through as the entire Gulf Coast region continues to recover after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The focus will be on service and justice as we live our shared reality as Christians: Marked with the cross of Christ forever, we are claimed, gathered, and sent for the sake of the world. March 2008 – Registration book mailed to every ELCA congregation September 15, 2008 – Gathering registration opens January 15, 2009 Gathering registration closes (Gathering registration will close earlier if it reaches 36,000 before January 15.
